Flesh-eating pineapple

When you eat pineapple does it eat you!

So, first thing first, today it is June 21, and that means that today is the very first Summer’s Day!

So, why don’t we talk about the most popular and refreshing summer fruit?

Pineapple.

The pineapple comes originally from Brazil and natives helped its spreading. In 1492, when America was discovered by Christopher Columbus, the pineapple was brought to Europe too.

It became more and more popular, especially between the 1600s and 1700s, in England. People during that period considered pineapple one of the most important symbols of richness and wealth!

But, what about the pineapple itself?

Did you know that when you eat a super refreshing slice of this fantastic fruit, technically it eats you back? And do you ever wonder why it causes you some annoyance on your tongue?

Well, it all has a scientific explanation.

Pineapples are made of this enzyme called Bromelain that practically digests protein thanks to proteinases and proteases and that is why essentially it eats you back!

Of course, once you swallow the pineapple, the stomach’s acids in the stomach destroy the enzymes.

Moreover, there are lots of different uses of it. For example, it is used to treat osteoarthritis, sinusitis. It also has some anti-inflammatory effects, and it improves journeys of weight loss. Most of all, it is said that bromelain has some anticancer effects because it affects both cancer cells and by improving inflammation in the body and boosting the immune system. However, bromelain has not been scientifically proven to be effective in treating many diseases and it has not been approved by the U.S Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of any disorder.

Tip: eat your pineapple and enjoy its flavour! I recommend you use it to prepare super-fresh smoothie bowls: they are delicious!

Add your milk and if you want you can also add some honey or any sweetener but remember that it is naturally sweet thanks to the banana flavour.
